We sometimes think of "answer to prayer" in terms of our Lord performing mighty works – if not miracles then great acts of grace and mercy. But what about the day-to-day, the mundane events of our lives? If there is one thing that old age has taught me, it is to thank God for the hundred and one ways he answers us in our everyday lives.
For instance: I sometimes need an item from the shed. Not a problem you might think. Well, no. Not until now, when the dreaded Arthur (Ritis) can strike at any time. So getting to and from the shed safely has become a matter of great concern. Not to mention humour, as I find myself muttering on the outward journey "Come on Lord, we can do it!" And then on the return – "There, I told you we could do it", as if the doubt came from Him rather than me!
Multiply that by all the other “everyday” blessings that we often take for granted and we can see how His love works in a practical sense.
And a final personal blessing – I am finding out how wonderful it is to "Be still and know that he is God" (Psalm 46).
(Note: Brian is one of the oldest of our flock and really quite poorly. He particularly needs our prayers at this time because Australia have been thrashing England at cricket)
